But this is what Saurav Kumar has achieved already! Saurav, a resident of Jalandhar Cantonment is a professional makeup artist and hair stylist at the age of 22. He has already worked for Shilpa Shetty, Ranbir Kapoor, Karan Kundra, Upasna Singh, Isha Rekhi, Nooran sisters and many other popular names in entertainment industry.
How did it begin
At the age of 5 one day Saurav Kumar peeped into the green room of a show where the make up artists were doing the make up on a star. Observing them closely, he realized he can do better than them. This happened at the age of 5, when kids don’t even know how to hold a crayon properly!
Soon his parents realised that Saurav could sketch portraits and paint a landscape so easily that it felt he knew it right from the womb! Nothing wasting any time, he tried the same on faces and bingo! Whomever he touched turned out God or Goddesses.
“Looking at my age, my clients used to be scared. They would not trust me and nag all throughout until I was done.”, laughs Saurav.
Over a period of time he gained popularity in his locality, and no sooner he was asked for bridal make overs. By the age of 8, people had to get appointment from Saurav Kumar!
Parents Reaction
Initially Saurav’s parents took his work as his hobby but when he wanted to make it his career choice, he was opposed from all sides. “My parents didn’t like my choice of profession and said it’s a girl thing”, admits Saurav Kumar. Most of his friends opted for conventional studies like engineering and medicine and that made them mock Saurav for being a beautician.
Despite all the nagging, Saurav went on to Bharat and Dorris Institute in Mumbai for Masters in make up application. He got his training under Ron Hodig from Holland. On the commercial front, he started from L’Oreal. “My co-mates used to envy me. Nobody would talk to me. I was all alone and it taught me to strive for excellence,” says a joyous Saurav Kumar.
Saurav gets immense pleasure seeing his clients happy. He wants to have his own institute some day. Saurav feel he can empower people by teaching them the art of applying make up. The talent will make them self reliant.
“My aim is to uplift weaker sections of the society by teaching them the art of beautifying”.
Saurav pictures his clients in his mind and makes his imagination a reality. His work has turned a girl next door into a diva. Easy use of different and vibrant eye shades, comfortable strokes on cheeks and turning strands of hair to a jaw dropping hair style. This is what Saurav Kumar is.
