Sachin Tendulkar will always and forever be known as the Master Blaster and God Of Cricket. When he announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, fans were rightly disappointed. They couldn’t get enough of him on the field. But even the greatest have to step down some day. Most celebrities who retire from the public eye are left to pursue other less lofty projects.
But not Sachin Tendulkar. He has redirected his energies to focus more on family, after a hugely successful 20-year career that kept him away. He is involved with NGO’s and is passionate about creating social change. Here is a man who has begun the next chapter of his life with a bang.
Sachin Tendulkar And Football
The Master Blaster does nothing for the sake of it. Knowing how huge his fan following is, he decided to make the most of this. He has long since used his status to bring into focus other major sports. Tendulkar is the proud co-owner of Kerala Blasters, one of the teams in the Indian Super League (Football). His involvement with other sports has ensured that the youth of the country follow and learn more about something other than just cricket.
Social Causes
Sachin Tendulkar has often mentioned that post-retirement, he wants to give back to the community. He has been true to his word so far. He is associated with Apnalaya, an NGO based in Mumbai. Each year, Tendulkar sponsors 200 children through the NGO. An amount of Rs. 25 lakhs from the sale of his autobiography was donated to Apnalaya.
He has also adopted a village in Andhra Pradesh. He helped build a sewage system, got 24-hour water and electricity supply and built roads throughout the village. Unlike other celebrities who do this just for publicity, Tendulkar’s efforts stand out.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi roped in Sachin Tendulkar to be one of the celebrity faces of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. He went a step further and showed his commitment to the campaign by singing a few lines for a song being composed for the campaign.
In 2010, he had the privilege to be named as the UN Goodwill Ambassador. During his time as the Ambassador, he advocated strongly for energy preservation and going green, even incorporating the concept into that year’s IPL tournament.
Member Of Parliament
Sachin Tendulkar has another feather in his cap as an MP in the Rajya Sabha. Although criticized for this attendance record, he has remained focused on making progress. He is one of the very few MPs who has used up almost all of the allocated funds from the Member Of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme. He has used these funds to rehabilitate Jammu and Kashmir and Uttarakhand after the floods last year and also help build schools and toilets in parts of West Bengal and Maharashtra.
New And Old Endorsements
While he was playing, Sachin Tendulkar was the brand ambassador for as many as 12 brands. With his retirement came a change in his brand and subsequent decline in brand endorsements. Today, he acts as the brand ambassador for Luminous Power Technologies Pvt Ltd, Musafir.com, ICC, and UNICEF.
Maybe he’s gained a little bit of weight. But after years of running on the field, he deserves lots of rest while making up for all the home-cooked meals he has missed.
