Pope Francis real name Jorge Mario Bergoglio is being heralded as a “coolest” pope than ever! For starters, did you know that he featured on the cover of the ‘Rolling Stone’? The editor was reportedly welcomed inside the Vatican, breaking many traditional barriers.
Pope Francis was a Bouncer!
Perhaps the reason why Pope Francis is so cool is because of his background. He was a bouncer for a nightclub in Argentina as a young person! He also owned a Harley Davidson which was sold for $237,000 which was donated to a soup kitchen in Italy that serves the homeless. In a first, his hat was also sold on ebay for $18,000, again for charitable causes. When it comes to exchanging hats, he also exchanged his hat with the natives from Amazon forest, urging the area to be better protected.
Dogs’ Love Didn’t Spare The Pope Either
If you haven’t warmed upto cool Francis by now, you will be floored to know that he is a dog lover. He said that dogs have a place in heaven, and has definitely won the hearts of many dog owners and lovers. Also, he is not one for woolly ideas. He said that God is not a magician with a magic wand. Also, claims that Science and Religion are not opposing, but an exploration of the same. All the more he also feels that he feels Evolutionary theory and the Big Bang are all part of understanding our beginning and of understanding God.
If you want more sass, picture this – Pope Francis said that he was open to the idea of aliens and even invited them to the church to take up Christian faith! In fact, the only people he feels should be excommunicated are the Italian mafia! Hear, hear!
Noble Pope Francis
Of course, he is also very open about social issues. He said that women should be heard as they have a lot of wisdom to impart to men. He also said that women have questions about things that men cannot even grasp yet. Also, he openly embraced homosexuals and invited them to the church. He also apologized for the church’s abuse of children and personally visited the victims. Further, he encourages young children to visit the church often. He even took a selfie with some children and gave other children a ride in his pope mobile too!
Religion without isolation
Pope Francis does not move around with heavy security like the previous popes nor does he live in the pope’s palace. Instead he lives in a small guesthouse. Pope also treats the mobile more like a necessity and less like a pleasure. Also, sometimes, he is just like the rest of us and loses patience when his favourite football team is losing! What more could we ask for? Here’s to a humble, cooler future in mainstream religion!
