Jane DoeMr. Yogendra Yadav is not an MP or MLA even then he is a popular face in Indian politics. Many believe that it was Yadav’s on-camera attitude that won him millions of hearts in the country. However his charisma did not last long in Aam Aadmi Party after the victory of 2015 as the party expelled him for alleged ‘Anti-Party’ activities.
Early Life And Education
Mr. Yadav was born on 5th Sept, 1963 in a middle-class family in Rewari, Haryana. He was initially named Salim however due to the Muslim inference at the age of 5 it was changed to Yogendra. His father Devendra Singh is a retired economics professor. and wife Madhulika Banerjee is an Associate Professor at Delhi University. Mr. Yadav did Bachelors in Arts from Rajasthan University, Masters in Arts from JNU Delhi and M Phil from Punjab University.
Career Growth
Mr. Yadav’s inclination and commitment towards politics got him his first job in 1985 as an Associate Professor at Punjab University. He worked there for 8 years before switching over to social activism and political analysis.
Yogendra Yadav took VRS from teaching 1993 and established Lokniti Network in 1995. He was the Chief Convener until 2002 when he was also appointed as the founder-director of CSDS (Centre for the Study of Developing Societies) Lokniti Research program on comparative democracy in 1997. Yadav’s active participation in this program won him the recognition of a political commentator and psephologist. CSDS offered senior fellowship to Yogendra Yadav in 2004. He was also the delegated member of UGC and National Advisory Council on RTE Act by the UPA government.

Yogendra Yadav’s Entry & Exit From Indian Politics
In 2011, a lot of anti-corruption activists gathered at Jantar Mantar, Delhi to support Anna Hazare’s hunger strike. A series of events transpired and brought together a few activists including Arvind Kejriwal, Prashant Bhushan, Kumar Vishwas and Yogendra Yadav. In some classic turns and twist these members decided to come together and form a political party. This party was named – Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to take forward the cause.
AAP chose Arvind Kejriwal as its CM candidate and fought elections in 2014. However due to sheer stupidity the party was dismantled from power much before completing the 5 year term. Yogendra Yadav and other leaders came together one more time to revamp the party. It was due to the efforts of these popular figures that AAP registered a massive win in the elections of February 2015. Of the 70 seats in Delhi assembly AAP had won 67 of them. No doubt it was the party leaders who had put in their sweat and blood going all out to win public confidence. But Arvind Kejriwal is known for rolling where he has fallen and he showed it one more time.
In April 2015, Kejriwal expelled Yogendra Yadav and Prashant Bhushan from the party by saying that their presence in the party was harmful to its ideology.
Yogendra Yadav today
AAP was a platform and not the final destination for Yogendra Yadav. His fight for the cause of common man continues even after he is no more a part of AAP. He put in motion Swaraj Abhiyan to strengthen his connect with the public. Currently Mr. Yadav is fighting for the cause of “Swaraj Samwads” and “Jai Kisan Abhiyan Swaraj Yatra.” He also seeks to fight for RTI, advisory council, autonomy to state bodies, freedom of expression, and the Lokpal bill.
Yogendra Yadav, 52, is not ready to hang is boots so early. At a time when people draw up plans for their after-retirement life, he has just started his second innings in politics. With decades of tactical and grass-root level experience in politics under his belt, Yadav is all set to give Indian politics a new direction.
