A lot of people might feel that New Market is clustered and over-populated most of the time, but when you have nothing to do in those long winter months, check out the Christmas Bazaar, which sits for two months. With Christmas trees and lights and steaming plates of food and the hum and buzz of excited citizens, New Market is one of the best places to be.
6. Kumortuli
Two months before the Durga Puja, Kumortuli comes alive, with half-made idols of the Goddess lining every street, every house and every shop. It also gives a great view of the river, and it is one of the coolest places you can visit with your friends during July, August, September and October.
7. Fairlawn
Fairlawn is an institution in itself. With the best beer and the best food at your disposal, this open-air restaurant is a great place to hang out with your friends. Also, the fairy lights come on at night, and once you sit, you will probably never feel like getting up.
8. Academy of Fine Arts/Nandan
The Academy of Fine Arts is one of the biggest cultural centers in a city which prides itself on its culture. With plays being held every day, and the adjoining Nandan being there to satisfy the cinema-buff in you, this stretch on Rabindra Sadan is one of the coolest places to chill in with friends.
9. Swabhumi
Despite the fact that Swabhumi is slightly removed from the main city, it is one of the coolest places that you can visit. With trees and lakes and boating rides and great food and almost every single important festive event happening there, Swabhumi is the place to be.
10. Teretti Morning Market, Kolkata
Sun Yat-sen Street is famous for the Morning Bazaar that sits, with the Chinese/Nepalese/Tibetan community. It sells the best version of their local food. You cannot find such authentic food anywhere else in the city. Moreover if you don’t reach before 8 AM you will miss finding it even here. Ultimate go-to place for the adventurous foodie.
